Winery Review: Brilliant yellow. Dried pear, lemon zest, honeysuckle and a hint of vanilla on the fragrant nose. Fleshy and smooth on the palate, offering fresh melon, pear nectar and tangerine flavors and a hint of bitter quinine that adds back-end cut. Closes on a subtle leesy note, showing very good energy and lingering citrus character.

My Review: I did not really like this wine. The wine had pretty medium amounts of tannin and I agree that is was a quite refreshing wine, but I think that the bitterness from the tangerine and the other citrus notes, distracted me from enjoying it. 

I tried this wine by itself.

Vibrant red and dark berry scents are complemented by hints of cola and candied flowers. Fresh and energetic on the palate, offering juicy raspberry and bitter cherry flavors that deepen and become sweeter on the back half. Gentle tannins build slowly on the clinging finish but are no match for the plush, primary fruit. This delicious Rioja drinks surprisingly well already. My Review: This was a nice subdued wine that was bright and fillin. The wine gave dark berry notes accompanied by low orange and very sweet notes that attributed to the brightness of teh wine. The wine was easy to drink and low tannins.  I drank this wine by itself.

Tasting: Prime's Ruby Port

Prime's Ruby Port (Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional, Tinto Cao, Tinta Roriz) Oporto Portugal $11.95 Winery Review:  Ruby color with red fruit aromas; pleasantly sweet and balanced taste. As the wines used to produce Prime’s Ruby Port age , they gain smoothness and elegance while retaining their fruitiness, intensity and youthful ruby color. They are then blended together for smoothness and consistency. My Review: This was a great flavorful port. There were nice bold flavors that were silky smooth; wiht flavors of oak and plum. I tried this wine by itself.

Tasting: Hawk Crest Cabernet Sauvignon

Hawk Crest Red Hills Cabernet Sauvignon Lake County, California America 2008 $25 Winery Review:  From Stag’s Leap winery this is textbook California Cabernet Sauvignon with dark fruit, red cherry and black pepper spice notes. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied with inviting blueberry pie and cocoa flavors. Enjoy this wine with grilled rib eye steak with herb butter, braised beef short ribs, or black-pepper-crusted ahi tuna. My Review: This was a very good wine that offered a lot of spicy notes and offered sort of medium to high tannins. The body of the wine was bold and full and had great aromatic notes of chocolate, dark berries, and slight musk. I tasted this wine by itself.
